On Thursday, May 14, the meditation center Zen Kannon Barcelona offered an introduction to Zen meditation at the Sofia Barat Library. This public activity brought together people interested in discovering this ancient practice of serenity and self-knowledge.

Zen Meditation at the Library

The event consisted of a practical workshop and a talk by Lluís Nansen entitled: “Zen Meditation: What It Is and How to Begin Practicing.” During the session at the library, participants were introduced to the foundations of Zen meditation. They learned how attention to the body and breathing helps us rediscover inner peace amid the fast pace of modern daily life.

Zen meditation mainly consists of sitting in a stable and awakened posture, observing the breath and letting thoughts pass without clinging to them. This practice, transmitted for centuries within the Zen Buddhist tradition, is considered a path of deep self-knowledge and liberation from suffering. The simplicity of the practice contrasts with the depth of the inner experience it can awaken.

During the Zen meditation workshop at the library, participants learned practical aspects of the seated zazen posture, the correct position of the back, breathing, and the proper mental attitude for beginning Zen meditation practice. The session at the library had a strongly experiential character, allowing attendees to directly experience a first contact with meditation.

At the end of the activity, there was a space for questions and dialogue that highlighted the growing interest in Zen meditation as a way to reduce stress, cultivate mindfulness, and develop a more conscious and balanced life. Many of the questions focused on how to begin practicing, how to integrate meditation into daily life, and the benefits of regular practice.

Activities such as Zen meditation at the library are part of the mission of Zen Kannon Barcelona to bring Zen meditation closer to society. The center offers accessible spaces where anyone can discover an ancestral practice that remains fully alive and relevant today.
