At the Open House Sangha Party, Zen Kannon offers an open session for friends and family of its active practitioners. The event will begin with a brief meditation, suitable for everyone, preferably seated on the floor on a cushion, although it can also be done on a bench or chair.
Ceremony dedicated to Zen ancestors
After zazen, we will dedicate a ceremony to the ancestors of the Zen Way, beginning with the historical Buddha and continuing through a line of transmission from teacher to disciple across India, China, Japan, and Europe. Zen transmission is direct, from heart to heart. By practicing together at the center and during retreats, the flame naturally spreads.
Sangha Party
The event will conclude with a Sangha Party. There will be a shared refreshment, with food brought by Sangha practitioners to share. The Sangha Celebration is much more than a simple gathering: it is an authentic and generous opportunity to get to know our practice community up close, share a time of joy and social connection, and experience what it truly means to be part of a Sangha (a respectful and non-discriminatory practice group). The sangha is one of the Three Treasures of Buddhism and represents sharing the Way, following a teacher, and sustaining practice in daily life.
Taking part in this open Sangha Celebration allows you to connect with other meditators in an atmosphere of respect, mutual support, and shared joy. It is the perfect opportunity to come with friends, family, or neighbors who are curious about meditation and contemplative life.
Come and share the experience of being part of a Sangha—spirituality lived in community—which opens the door to self-knowledge and the letting go of selfishness. Admission is free but limited to members and their guests. As places are limited, prior registration is required.
